Lesson Description

Sapphire Ribbons lessons are designed to provide riders with a well-rounded horsemanship education. Lessons may include safe horse handling, grooming and daily horse care, horse behavior and safety education, tacking and untacking, stable management, riding instruction, arena etiquette and safety, cooling out horses, tack cleaning, and proper post-ride horse care.

Lesson time may include mounted and unmounted activities. A one-hour lesson does not mean one hour of riding time. Riders are expected to participate in horse care before and after riding unless otherwise directed by the instructor.

Assumption of Risk

The Rider and/or Parent/Guardian understands that horseback riding, horse handling, grooming, tacking, mounting, dismounting, and all equine-related activities involve inherent risks that may result in serious injury, paralysis, death, or property damage. The Rider voluntarily assumes all risks associated with participation in equine activities and acknowledges that horses are unpredictable animals that may react unexpectedly.

Iowa Equine Liability Warning

Under Iowa law, an equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 673.

The Rider and/or Parent/Guardian acknowledges having read and understood this warning.

Prohibited footwear includes: sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, open-toed shoes, bare feet, high heels, or any footwear deemed unsafe by Sapphire Ribbons. Helmet Requirement

All riders under the age of eighteen (18) must wear a properly fitted ASTM/SEI-approved equestrian riding helmet whenever mounted on a horse. No exceptions will be permitted.

Adult riders (18 years of age or older) are strongly encouraged to wear a properly fitted ASTM/SEI-approved equestrian riding helmet whenever mounted on a horse. Sapphire Ribbons recommends helmet use for all riders regardless of age or experience level.

An adult rider who elects not to wear a helmet acknowledges that horseback riding presents a significant risk of head injury, traumatic brain injury, paralysis, and death. The rider understands that helmet use may reduce the severity of such injuries and voluntarily assumes all additional risks associated with riding without a helmet.

ADULT RIDER ELECTION (18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER ONLY)
I agree to wear an ASTM/SEI-approved riding helmet whenever mounted.
I voluntarily decline to wear a helmet and knowingly assume all risks associated with that decision.2
